Saving money with central heating controls
If you don't have your central heating controls set correctly or the correct controls installed you could be wasting money!
Read on to see if you might be able to save money control your heating or hot water more effectively.
Key things to check to see if your central heating and hot water system is as efficient as it could be:
If you have your hot water normally heated by your boiler, when was the last time you checked to see if your immersion heater was switched off? Normally it should be switched off until needed to boost hot water temperature or in the event of a boiler failure to heat the water.
If your unsure of how to do this call David on 07881786278 to arrange for a no charge, no obligation visit.
When was the last time you checked to see if your immersion heater worked?
It's not unusual to go to your airing cupboard to switch on the immersion heater in the event of boiler failure to find that it blows a fuse, trips a cicuit breaker or trips an RCD. Why not check to see if your immersion heater works before you need it?
If you're unsure about how to do this or you do discover a problem please call David on 07881786278 to arrange for a no charge, no obligation assessment.
Is your pipework insulated?
Quite often pipework from central heating boilers is left uninsulated. This is less of an issue when a boiler is installed in a kichen or utility room, but definitely something that needs to be done if your boiler is in a garage, loft or other unheated area.
If you are unsure which pipes to insulate. Please call David on 07881786278 to arrange for a no charge, no obligation assessment of your pipe insulation.
Is the hot water pipework connected to your hot water cylinder insulated?
Water regulations require that hot pipework to and from the hot water cylinder should be insulated for at least one meter (or as far as is practical). This prevents heat loss through the pipes from the cylinder.
Should you be unsure which pipes you should be insulating please call David on 07881786278 to arrange for a no charge, no obligation assessment of your pipe insulation.
Have you checked your boiler programmer settings?
By simply re-assessing your hot water and central heating 'on' and 'off' periods you may be able to make significant savings without noticing a loss in warmth of rooms or water.
Some programmers can be difficult to change and so we can fit 'retro' simple non digital programmers for those who prefer simple controls.
Should you be experiencing difficulty with your programmer call David on 07881786278 to arrange for a no obligation visit.
Do you have a room thermostat installed and is it working correctly?
Every central heating system should have at least one room thermostat installed. If you have an older boiler you may be relying on the boiler thermostat to switch the boiler off and this is highly inefficient.
Identify if you have a room thermostat and check to see if it's working correctly.
If you haven't got a thermostat, or it doesn't appear to be working correctly, then call for David at LNE on 07881787278 for a no charge, no obligation assessment of your central heating system controls.
Do you have to leave your central heating on all day during colder spells?
During colder periods it can be desirable to leave the heating on all day even when you're out to ensure a warm house for when you get home in the evening. This wastes gas and is expensive. One alternative is to have the heating off during the day, but the boiler may then struggle to reach a comfortable temperature by the time you get home.
One option available is to fit a programmable room thermostat. With a programmable thermostat you are able to break the day into segments and so define a minimum temperature for each segment. Thus enabling your central heating system to maintain several background temperatures during the day and to ramp the temperature up to a comfortable temperature for when you come home at night.
Your boiler is still on during the day, but is working far less hard.
If you're interested in exploring the idea of having a programmable thermostat installed and would like to discuss this further, then please call for David at LNE on 07881787278 for a no charge, no obligation assessment of your central heating system controls.
Do you have thermostatic radiator valves installed and are they working?
All domestic installations should have thermostatic radiator valves installed. These will enable the control of the temperature in each room as the valves reduces hot water flow to the radiator as the room reaches a pre-set temperature on the thermostatic valve. Thus ensuring that the hot water is then diverted to those rooms still requiring heating.
For a no charge, no obligation assessment of your central heating system controls and to price for converting your existing valves to thermostatic please call for David at LNE on 07881787278.
